Parkinson's disease and TBI history: possible links and consequences.

   Proposal Description:
   The primary goal of our analysis is to collect and compare all NACC cases with a clinical diagnosis of Parkinson disease with and without history of traumatic brain injury and verify if there are differences in terms of motor and non-motor symptomatology between PD cases with a history of TBI before the initial diagnosis. Moreover, we wish to compare both PD/TBI groups with an age- and sex-matched control group (if available). The specific aims of our analyses will focus on the identification of an increased risk for an earlier onset of PD as well as higher severity for motor, cognitive and behavioral aspects in PD with TBI vs. PD without TBI. In addition, we will correlate APOE genotype and neuropathological findings creating specific subgroups of analyses based on the availability of these data (APOE and neuropath data).  We double check that this proposal is not redundant in the field and it never been proposed by using all the available NACC data by date. Consequently, we are requesting as many data available for every subject that was diagnosed with PD (at any visit) and matched controls.
